This is yet another golden opportunity offered by the YFC to its members.
Apart from the fun of being a member of a Young Farmers Club like Dyffryn Cothi, with all its activities and competitions at club, county and National level, the YFC movement offers its members the chance to travel all over the world. The various trips available vary from a week to 12 months, usually only at the cost of the flight. Since 2003 several members of Dyffryn Cothi have taken up this opportunity to travel around the globe.

Heb law am yr hwyl o fod yn aelod o clwb ffermwyr ifanc fle Dyffryn Cothi, gyda ei holl weithgareddau a cystadleuthau ar lefel clwb, sir a Genedlaethol, mae y mudiad yn cynnig cyfle i'r aelodau i trafaelu dros y byd. Mae nifer o teithiau ar gal o wythnos i 12 mis, ag fel rheol am dim ond pris hedfan. Ers 2003 mae nifer o aelodau Dyffryn Cothi wedi cymeryd y cyfle i trafaelu omgylch y byd.

IRWEL JONES

In 2003, Irwel Jones was one of the first members to head overseas and his first trip was an NFYFC trip to stay with the JUnior Farmers of Ontario in Canada for 3 months during the summer. Irwel spent the whole summer sampling the delights of Onatario, including Horse Riding, White Water Rafting, BBQ, visits to Niagra Falls and the CNN Tower in Toronto to name but a few.

Yn 2003, Irwel Jones oed un o aeloda cyntaf y clwb ers 1994 i cymeryd y cyfle i trafaelu dramor wrth ennill taith i aros gyda Junior Farmers of Ontario yn Canada am 3 mis yn ystod yr haf. Mi wnaeth fwynhau yr haf yn neud nifer o wahanol pethe gan cynnwys ymweld a Niagra Falls a Toronto.

In 2004, Ulster was the destination of Irwel has he was selected to represent Wales at the Ulster YFC Annual Convention for two weeks in April. During his two weeks he will be staying with the families of Ulster YFC members. Irwel was chosen as one of two ambassadors for Wales to attend the Convention, as his outgoing personality and infectious humour are two things the members of Ulster will not forget in a hurry! Irwel flies to Ulster on the 17th April and returns on the 30th.

Unwaith eto yn 2004, caeth Irwel Jones wedi cael ei ddewis i deithio dramor gan y mudiad. Eleni mi fydd ei daith am ddwy wythnos ag yn nes i adre, sef Gogledd Iwerddon. Mi caeth ei ddewis yn Penwythnos arbennig yn Llanelwedd nol yn Mis Tachwedd i fynd i Gynhadledd Blynyddol C.Ff.I. Ulster. Yn ystod ei amser yno, mi fydd yn aros gyda teuluodd rhai o aelodau y mudiad yn Gogledd Iwerddon. Caeth ei ddewis i fod yn un o ddau llysgenhadon o Cymru, am fod ganddo bersonliaeth rhadlon a hiwmor heintus ni fydd y gwyddelod yn medru anghofio yn fuan! Mi fydd yn hedfan i Iwerddon ar y 17ed Ebrill ag yn dod nol ar 30ed.

IAN O'CONNOR

In June 2005 Ian O'Connor spent two weeks in Scotland, which included visiting the Royal Highland Show, the Isle of CumbraeKilmarnock, Stirling, Culzean Castle, and the cities of Edinburgh and Glasgow. Whilst in Scotland Ian stayed with a host family and met up with other exchangees from countries from around the world, including Austria, Canada, and Australia.

Yn Mehefin 2005 Mi aeth Ian O'Connor i'r Alban am pethefnos, i ymweld ar Royal Highland Show, ISle of Cumbrae Kilmarnock, Stirling, a Castell Culzean, ac hefyd drefydd Edinburgh a Glsgow. Pan yn yr Alban wnaeth Ian aros gyda teuleuodd Aelodau Ffermwyr ifanc yr alban ac cwrdd a ffermwyr ifanc o nifer o wahanal glwedith gan cynnwys Austria, Canada a Awstralia.

This year Ian has chosen to travel further afield and will be attending the European Rally in July. This is held this year in Latvia, and will show Ian a totally different culture and way of life.

Eleni mae Ian wedi dewis mynd yn bellach ar ei deithio wrth cael ei ddewis y gynrychioli Cymru yn y Rali Ewropiaidd yn Mis Gorffenaf. Yn Latvia mae y Rali eleni ac caeth Ian cyfle i weld fford wahanol iawn o fyw. Rwyn siwr cei di amser arbennig.

ALED JONES

One who also decided that travelling with the YFC was for him was Aled Jones. His first venture was to the EUROPEAN RALLY in July of 2004. Aled spent a week in Northern Ireland at the European Rally. There were teams from most of the European countries there, giving Aled the opportunity to make friends with like minded young people throughout Europe. During the week they spent time promoting their own countries, taking part in various projects and also socialising. Aled said that the Rally is a trip everyone should try for, as it was an amazing event.

Un sydd hefyd wedi penderfynny teithio drwy y mudiad yw Aled Jones. I daith cyntaf oedd i Rali Ewropiaidd yn Mis Gorffenaf 2004. Gwariodd Aled wythnos yn Gogles Iwerddon. Roedd yna timoedd o rhan fwyaf o wledydd ewrop, yn rhoi cyfle i Aled wneud ffrindiau gyda aleodau y mudiad dros Ewrop. Yn ystod yr wythnos mi wnaeth Aled hel yr amser yn hysbysebu ein gwlad, cymeryd rhan mewn gwahanol prosiectiau, a cymdeithasu. Mae Aled yn teimlo bod y Rali yn drip ddylai pawb trio amdani, gan ei fod yn ddigwyddiad rhyfeddol..

Deciding that there was more to see of the UK, and having heard of Ian's exploits in Scotland, Aled decided this year to head to Scotland for a 2 week visit in June. This ties in nicely with Aled's exams at University and enables him to visit the Highland Show as well as stay with host families whilst in Scotland.

Yn penderfynny fod fwy i weld yn yr UK a wedi clywed am hanes Ian yn yr Alban, penderfynoedd Aled mae mynd i'r Ablan am pethefnos oedd i fod eleni. Llwyddo ennill un allan o'r ddau le sydd i gael i Ffermwyr Ifanc Cymru yn Yr Highland Show yn Mis Mehefin. Mwynha dy hun Aled..

SIAN DAVIES

Another in trepid explorere is Sian Davies, our current Chairman.Sian has travelled extensively to the antepoedeans of her own accord but since returning to Wales in 2003, Sian has travelled with the YFC. In September 2003 Sian flew to Kenya for a 4 week visit. During her time in Kenya, Sian will be spending the first few days in Nairobi, attending the Nairobi International Trade Fair, and visiting animal sanctuaries and a giraffe Centre. She will then move further into Kenya usually by local bus (which means the bus will be shared not only by people, but various chickens, goats etc. Also on-board will be a mechanic in case the old buses break down on the very remote and dilapitated roads). Sian will stay with host families, learning how the kenyans live. She will also visit local schools and orphanages. Sian also hopes she will get the opportunity to go on Safari, and also travel the Nairobi to Mombassa train. (One of the best train journeys in the world it is claimed). Her last few days will be spent at Mombassa, soaking up the sun on the beach. Although her YFC trip ends after month, Sian has decieded to stay on for an extra few weeks, travelling to Tanzania, Zambia and South Africa. Might as well since your already there! Sian who just managed to return from Kenya in time for the selection weekend for the next round of trips, was chosen to attend a Seminar in Strasbourgh in Januray 2005.Since then Sian has also won a £1000 scholarship with the movement to study diversification in Agricultural in Europe. Sian has only just returned from a trip to Spain where she attended a conference on this subject. Not having enough of travelling with the YFC, Sian has now planned her own trip - an extended visit back to New Zealand. She will be leaving on the 10th June 2006. We wish her all the best on your journey.

CARWYN EDWARDS

Also in 2003, Carwyn Edwards' YFC exchange trip to America started at the beginning of October. He spent 3 weeks staying with host families in the Chicago area of Illinois. During his trip he attended the Future Farmers of America National Conference, which is usually attended by over 40,000 members of FFA. Carwyn too, opted to extend his trip overseas when the YFC exchange came to an end. He left America for New Zealand, where he spent the next couple of months. Carwyn returned home in time for lambing.

Hefyd yn 2003, Mi llwyddo Carwyn Edwards i fynd ar daith i America ar ddechrau Mis Hydref. Dim ond dau aelod o'r mudiad yn Cymru roedd yn cael ei dewis. Mi roedd yn aros gyda teuleuoedd lleol yn ardal Chicago, Illinois. Yn ystod ei daith, mi fuodd Carwyn yn cynhadledd Future Farmers of America, yn cwmni 40,000 o aelodau y FFA!. Ar ol ei amser yn America, mi aeth Carwyn ymlaen i Seland Newydd am rhai misoedd. Mi oedd nol mewn pryd i wyna.

A CANADIAN VISITOR

As most of the YFC trips are exchanges, this means that the time soon comes for someone from overseas to visit Wales. During the summer Cecilia McMorrow from Ontario came over to the UK for 3 months, and spent 2 weeks staying in the Dyffryn Cothi area. As it happened, her trip coincided with the Royal Welsh, and so she spent her first week in Wales enjoying the delights of the show, and sleeping in a Caravan. The rest of her time in Dyffryn Cothi was spent at Cwrt y Cadno with Irwel Jones and his Family. During her stay she visited Llanstephan, Llyn Brianne, the Cinema, the Beach, etc, and also got involved with Cothi Shears. Overall, she had a memorable few weeks learning more about how the YFC movement works in Wales, and how hardworking Dyffryn Cothi is as a club. Hopefully she will take back some interesting memories of her trip.

ANTOHER CANADIAN VISITOR

Although not on an official YFC trip,Jen Mitchell, President of the Junior Farmers of Ontario also visited Dyffryn Cothi for a few days, whilst on holiday for 3 weeks in the UK. Jen hosted Irwel whilst he was in Canada last year, and he kindly returned the favour. During her stay, Jen attended the Carmarthenshire County Sportsnight, went to Oakwood after dark with Dyffryn Cothi YFC, and went to the 60th Anniversary Dance at Penybont, Llanfynnydd. She also went to Llyn Brianne, assisted on the farm with the Cattle, and also viewed the club's pantomime and most recent concert on Video. Unfortunately she was unable to stay to watch some of the club members, including Irwel, play rugby for Llansawel, on the Saturday as she had a flight to catch early in the morning. Jen was interested to see how our events were run, and hopefully she will be able to include some of our ideas into their programme in Ontario. From Wales, Jen went on to Armagh, before moving onto Scotland.
